Breather Molecular Complexes in a Passively Mode?Locked Fiber Laser

Breathing solitons are nonlinear waves in which the energy concentrates a localized and oscillatory fashion. Similarly to stationary solitons, breathers dissipative systems can form stable bound states displaying molecule-like dynamics, frequently called breather molecules. So far, experimental observation of optical molecules real-time detection their dynamics limited diatomic molecules, that is, only two breathers. In this work, different types complexes mode-locked fiber laser: multibreather molecular originating from binding breather-pair or pair molecule single is reported. The intermolecular temporal separation attains several hundreds picoseconds, more than an order magnitude larger soliton counterparts signature long-range interactions. Numerical simulations laser model support findings. Moreover, nonequilibrium breathing also observed, including collisions annihilation. This work opens possibility studying many-body elementary constituents.

We have demonstrated simultaneous lasing and self-frequency doubling of a neodymium and germanium doped silica fiber laser at 1.06 pm. The doubling action is provided by a self-organized phase matching grating in the fiber. The laser was modelocked using a linear external cavity which produced 600 ps pulses at 1.06 pm.
